BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS FAMILY TREE - SHOWS LIST 1967-1980

This story is the work of Bruno Ceriotti. Help un putting this together has been provided by Steve Katz, Gerard Daily, Greg Vick, Dave Callow, Kenny Webber and Dean L. Surkin, to whom I'm most grateful.

AL KOOPER'S BACKING BAND (JUL 22, 1967 - AUG 1967)
1) Alan Peter Kuperschmidt (aka Al Kooper) vocals, guitar, keyboards
2) Steve Katz vocals, guitar, harp
3) Robert 'Bobby' Colomby vocals, drums
4) James Thomas 'Jim' Fielder bass

July 27-29, 1967: Cafe Au Go Go, 152 Bleecker Street, Greenwich Village, New York City, NY with Jack Andrews (27)
Al Kooper had decided to move to England and chose to throw a "benefit" for himself with all his friends. Al was backed by a unnamed trio consisting of Steve Katz on guitar, Jim Fielder on bass and Bobby Colomby on drums. However, despite six sold-out shows (two shows each night), Al makes very little money due to excessive expenses, and gives up the idea of moving to London. Nonetheless, his pickup group sounds great, and they decide to add a horn section and form a band.

  3. I remember seeing BS&T at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium (Queens County, NYC) in the summer of 1969. I'm pretty sure I recall the venue correctly, because I used to admire the Voice of the Theater speakers the venue had, arranged in a large oval on the tennis courts, facing the stands. The sound, for its time, was superb. The following year (or perhaps it was 1971), when the Tennis Stadium added seats to the field and moved the speakers to scaffolding on the sides of the stage, the sound suffered.

  5. I'm pretty sure I saw them at the Roanoke, VA Civic Center Auditorium somewhere between 1971 and 1973 but can't remember the exact date. I have a friend that said he saw them either in Salem, VA or Charleston, WV in the fall of 1970. Neither of these are listed so I was curious if you had more info on these shows? Also, I seem to remember Charlie Karp being introduced to the audience at the show I attended at the Roanoke, VA Auditorium. Is this also possible?
