  1. I think I saw them once at a "Battle of the Bands" in Portland Oregon's Memorial Coliseum but I may be deluded.

  2. Saw em at the Teenage fair. first time I had seen smoke machines. Along with the strobes, the tent and the over the top psychedelic tunes, quite the musical experience for a 14 year old kid.

  3. In 1968 or so, I saw California Spectrum (a touring band the Harris brothers formed to break off from Markley) at Arrowhead Archery Lanes (a mid-sized music venue at the time) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I was already a big WCPAEB fan and had all the albums of theirs I could find. I remember they played the George Harrison song "If I Needed Someone".

    1. Hi Kim and thanks to share with us your memories of the good old days! I know the California Spectrum but I didn't know they played live, I thought they were only a studio band, so thanks for this great new info!

      Cheers,
      Bruno

  4. Hi there,

If anyone is interested to hear the WCPAEB story in Michael Lloyd's own words here is an Australian radio show called Purple Haze.

  5. Without Ron Morgan [still omitted from lineups] WCPAEB would have fallen into obscurity period.

    1. Totally agreed. Morgan is the great unsung lead guitar link between guys who were just "spanging" along playing derivative surf licks and the later psychedelic and progressive rock stylings. He was also first on record to record a very particular type of lead guitar style that while others may have played live he was certainly first to record and I maintain he was the guy who started that keening howling sad lyrical lead guitar type as on shifting sands. And that's not all he could do.

  6. Ron Morgan is not omitted from lineups, he was in the lineup #3 from 1967 to 1968. I don't know if they would have fallen into obscurity without him or not, but yes, Ron is a great guitarist!

    Cheers,
    Bruno

  7. Saw them at the March '67 Teen Age Fair in the tent. I remember Bob Markley was actually collecting the admission fee of ".35 cents" for a 15 minute show repeated through the day. It left an unforgettable memory with the light show, stobe, smoke but most of all "a wall of sound", wow! Thanks for keeping record of those times and people and may all of those know His blessings or hopefully knew while here.
