The last show held at the original Boston Tea Party location at 53 Berkeley Street was on 7/11/69 (The Velvet Underground, Country Funk, and Quill).
ReplyDeleteThe next night (7/12/69), Larry Coryell, Country Funk, and Quill opened the "new" Boston Tea Party located behind Fenway Park's center field at 15 Lansdowne Street (formerly The Ark, which merged with the Boston Tea Party).

Other Comments:
18 April 1968: Blue Cheer replaced BB King.
June 13-15, 1968: You can delete “The American Revolution” it is simply descriptive.
July 14-16, 1969: Procol Harum, Blodwyn Pig - This is a 1970 date not 1969.
October 2-4, 1969: Grateful Dead, Bonzo Dog Band, Doc Watson - I am not so sure that Doc Watson played.
Thanks Ross!
ReplyDeleteSaw Jethro Tull & the Silver Apples at the Feb 15,1969 show, was a 15 year old kid fro Kearny New Jersey visiting my older brother at Boston Univ & this is one of the places we went, had a great time, the next week was the Byrds & the Flying Burrito Bros, wish I had a chance to have seen that one
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg to share with us your wonderful memories of the good old rock and roll days!!
ReplyDeleteThe show with the Byrds and Doug Kershaw was the best! The Louisiana Man played Diggy Diggy Lo and the late great Clarence White sang "Truck Stop Girl." Sweet memories on a Thursday night and all for$3.50!
ReplyDeleteMy first Tea Party show- I'll Wind and Fleetwood Mac. I was hooked! Still remember the first song of the first Led Zeppelin show - "Communication Breakdown."

ReplyDeleteI saw Velvet Underground 3 or 4 times at the Berkeley St. venue, plus lots of other acts including Bonzo Dog Band. We used to sit in the balcony and watch them do the light show. Boston Police detectives would show up and look for runaways (so I was told). The Devil's Disciples motorcycle gang would show up sometimes but they never bothered anyone. Don Law was the manager and my friend Debbie Chase worked there, so I got in free!
ReplyDeleteJune 5-7, 1969: Delaney, Bonnie and Friends (sans Eric Clapton) / Serfs
ReplyDeleteClapton joined D&B&F on July 18 in Toronto according to Bobby Whitlock (Winter 2000 interview by Mitch Lopate http://swampland.com/articles/view/title:bobby_whitlock)
you are right about the June 1969, not my fault, I take the gig list from another source and I did not double check it. Anyway, Clapton (with Blind Faith) just shared the bill with D&B&F at the Electric Circus in Toronto on July 18, but he actually joined them only later on November 9, 1969.
DeleteThe Move did not make it to Boston Sept. 25-27, 1969. J. Geils Blues Band opened the show I attended. Lonnie Mack headlined. Having seen The Move in London summer 1967, I was sorely disappointed
ReplyDeletethanks man, correct!
DeleteI was at the last show at E. Berkeley St What an unbelievable vibe. I will never forget it!
ReplyDeleteThe Mountain and Hawkins show also had Otis Spann on the bill. Mountain and Spann both performed Stormy Monday !
ReplyDeleteWhere is the Tull show that had Chicken Shack open ?

Great site! Do you recall the Berkeley Street Blues Club that opened for one night in Boston circa 1970 with Buddy Guy and Big Momma Thornton? Ron Vanderbilt promoted the show and opened the club which got closed down by the city after just one night. The show was by invitation only. Thanks for any ideas you may have!
